Hope Speaks is a nonprofit based in Kampala, Uganda, with a mission to inspire hope and amplify the voices of people with disabilities. In Uganda, 1 in 7 children lives with a disability, yet access to rehabilitative therapy is extremely limited. Hope Speaks exists to help close that gap by providing speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy to children and families who would otherwise go without.
I spent a month as a volunteer with Hope Speaks back in 2023, and to say it was life changing would be an understatement. Alongside Ugandan clinicians and professionals, we provided free Speech Language Pathology (SLP) services to children in villages, slums, and orphanages across the region. I got to participate in the intersection of the career I loved and the mission to walk alongside the marginalized, affirming their voices and God-given dignity. I left Uganda with a new purpose for pursuing this field, and I've hoped for the chance to return ever since. After graduating in May with my master’s degree, I have the opportunity to return to Uganda to complete my clinical fellowship (CF).
During my CF year with Hope Speaks, I’ll provide SLP services in a school and several outreach clinics across southern Uganda. These services will help children learn to communicate their wants, needs, and ideas, build social skills, and swallow safely. Just as importantly, Hope Speaks works alongside families and communities to provide education, advocacy, and access to resources so that people of all abilities can reach their fullest potential. Hope Speaks also hosts and supports programs focused on nutrition, pastoral care, respite for families, children’s day camps, and other community-based initiatives.
To make this year CF possible, I am saving/ raising $20,000 to cover flights and other necessary expenses. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a real difference. Your support helps make it possible for me to be present, serve alongside local professionals, and walk with children with disabilities as they find their voices and grow in confidence.
If you feel led, I would be so grateful for your financial support. I would also deeply appreciate you sharing this page with others who may want to support this work.
Thank you for being part of my life and for supporting something that truly matters to me and to so many families here. God bless you!
