Hope Speaks is a ministry of speech therapists that serves the 1 in 7 children of Uganda who are living with a disability. Due to cultural stigma, children with disabilities are often considered curses or results of witchcraft in Uganda, which socially isolates them and their mothers. Hope Speaks offers speech therapy services to support language learning, speech, and safe chewing and swallowing for these children, but also to educate parents on the nature of disability and give them strategies to have positive interactions with their child. This impact can be life-saving for many of our children.
Hope Speaks also includes local speech therapists, psychologists and social workers, with the goal of increasing local ownership and leadership of the organization. They maximize the cultural and linguistic knowledge of these local speech therapists while providing them with practical training, which increases the overall quality of all services and supports the sustainability of Hope Speaks. In order to do this, Hope Speaks needs to hire more full-time speech, physical, and occupational therapists, at a salary of $5000 USD.
Please join us in raising the funds for this organization to hire a new speech therapist! Both one-time and monthly recurring donations are welcome, and consider inviting your friends and family to join in this mission too.
