In June 2023, we plan to return to eastern Africa to serve refugees in northern Uganda. Over one million South Sudanese have fled their country as war between major tribes moves toward genocide. The refugees (86% women and children, 64% under the age of 18) have experienced and witnessed terrible human atrocities. The people of South Sudan “sit on their hands wondering where is peace? Where is reconciliation?”
We know the God of both. We must go and share Jesus’ Gospel of Love and Peace. Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” (ESV). We want to share this hope with others.
As of May 8, 2023, we are fully funded to go to Uganda. In addition, people have generously given $290 to provide food for refugees. Thank you! If you would like to help our teammates go, please consider giving to them. Here are links to their pages:
David ministered to refugees in the Rhino Camp (same area of Uganda) in 2019. Hilary has met practical needs of local Ukrainian refugees in Phoenix over the past several months (teaching English, helping them learn to drive and get driver’s licenses). We both have a heart to address the spiritual, physical, and practical needs of people living in eastern Africa.
We plan to go to Adjumani and Arua (see map below) to partner with South Sudanese leaders to plant churches within walking distance of refugees in northern Uganda – the ultimate goal being that every refugee would have a church within walking distance. Please consider partnering with us prayerfully and financially, as we go to further these efforts!
On a personal note, Uganda played a very special and significant role in our story. You can read about it by clicking here. The person with whom David “connected through social media” will be visiting Uganda for her first time on this trip - roughly ten years later.
During the past two summers, we have journeyed to eastern Africa to join what the Lord is doing there. Although our focus is different in 2023, we wanted to include a video recap below from last year.
