Irby Family Adoption
by Josh and Taylor Irby 1 Lives Impacted Bulgaria
We are the Irbys living in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Hercegovina with our four children, Israel (11), Elijah (9) Adeline (5), and Zoe (3). Even though we're...
Adoption has been something we've talked about for most of our marriage. Taylor has wanted to adopt for as long as she can remember. She brought that dream into our marriage. For Josh, it was the experience of opening our home to the children of our diverse neighborhood while living in Atlanta. During that time we looked at these children and agreed, "if any of these kids ever need a home they can come live with us."
When we moved to Bosnia we were told adoption was impossible so we put that dream on hold. However in December 2013 we discovered Small World Adoptions, an agency specializing in helping families living overseas adopt.
We have the unique opportunity to adopt from the part of the world in which we live. This could make an easier transition for the child because of similar culture and language. It could also allow the child to have a connection with their birth country. We love this part of the world. How awesome would it be to have a part of this world in our family?
Most of all, we believe every child deserves a family. We want to invite you to join our adventure as we search for the child God has planned for us. This could be a long process (up to 4 years for Bulgaria) and we look forward to updating you on the progress.
We have a donations goal of $35,000 that will go towards the cost of the adoption. Every donation is important and will help make this adoption a success. Would you consider making a donation? Also, we would appreciate your willingness to share this with others who may want to participate.
We are only at the beginning of our adventure and would love to have you come along on the journey with us!
*we are also open to other countries in Eastern Europe. Unfortunately, Bosnia is not open to adoptions from foreigners.
