Hi, all! Thank you for taking time to learn about Hope Speaks and how I'll join them this Summer.
They're an incredible Christian ministry serving some of the 3 million children living with disabilities in Uganda. Because of a lack of prenatal care and education there, there are more disabilities but less services. Kids with communicative challenges are often hidden, abused and sometimes killed. Hope Speaks provides services to these families, centered on dignity, empowerment and excellence.
They're working hard training year-round Ugandan SLPs but so far there are only 15 in the country. With hundreds of kids on their wait-list, they invite volunteer professionals and graduate students (like me!) to assist with assessments and provide treatment.
In each of my jobs with foster children and children with special needs over the last 8 years, my heart has been to live out the freeing truth of the Gospel. God is invested in every person's voice. He empowers us through sacrificial love, compelling us to follow His example. Hope Speaks does just that, and I am so excited to partner with them.
If you'd like to support this work, it's greatly appreciated! Donations made on this page will go directly to Hope Speaks and be applied towards my trip. If you can't right now, no worries. I appreciate that you took the time to read this and hope you found it encouraging to hear how God is on the move in Uganda.
Warmly,
Jasmine
