Can you believe it has been 9 years since the crippling earthquake in Haiti?

On January 12, 2010 a magnitude 7.0 earthquake upended life in Haiti, killing more than 300,000 people and destroying hundreds of thousands of homes. For many of those left homeless, life still hasn't yet returned to normal.

Over the past two summers, my oldest daughter Karsyn has gone on trips to help impact the lives of people in both Nicaragua and Haiti. This has had just as big of an impact on her life as it has on those she has helped. In doing so, she has inspired my youngest daughter Sydney to follow in her footsteps, and furthermore to challenge me to join her. I am so excited for the opportunity to serve others alongside a group of very caring and thoughtful high-school students. 

Since the earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010,  Hear the Cry has been a part of building over 50 homes and a school, helping start a hospital, as well as funding and facilitating medical clinics and other locally driven initiatives. We work with a few different partners including Forward Edge, MamaBaby Haiti, and Restore Haiti.

While things continue to change in Haiti, our desire is to continue helping in long-term sustainable initiatives that will restore the economy, education and hope into a very difficult situation.

In Jacmel, Haiti, everything we do is centered around a thriving church in a rural community called Restoration Ministries. Restoration has many programs for the community including a school, a feeding program for the children, and they also build houses for people in need.

Our teams will be working along side of Haitians all day, will help with building or manual labor projects that the church is working on.  We have helped to build homes, a playground, worked on painting projects and helped in the community.  The afternoons are spent helping with the feeding program, playing with the children and often offering a week of fun with Vacation Bible School.
