Albania is a breathtaking land of vast mountainscapes and beautiful coastlines. In 2014, the New York Times named the country a top tourist destination.

Albania became an independent country in 1912 but that independence didn’t last long. In 1939, Italy invaded and converted the country into a Nazi protectorate in 1943. Following World War II, it then became a socialist republic. Under communism, Albania was highly isolated until the regime fell in the 1992 national elections.

Today, over 2.8 million citizens call Albania home. Up to 120,000 are ethnic Romas, often known as gypsies. Roma communities are found all over the nation but the people are often subject to discrimination and extreme poverty. Many of their villages lack basic water, electricity, and sanitation. The people are often illiterate and have difficulty accessing adequate medical care.

This trip will go deep into Roma and Albanian communities where we’ll offer free medical care. Everyone who comes will receive check-ups from doctors and leave with free medications. As we interact with them, we will have opportunities to share the Gospel through biblical storytelling.
