Cuba SD Summer Mission Trip Sept 15-24, 2023
Changing Lives Together: Mission Trip Fund Cuba
Greetings,
my name is Karla, I am a Southern California native and Dental Hygiene student at an amazing Dental school in Southern California. I am a mother to a beautiful and intelligent toddler and a wife to a selfless husband.
I have a passion for education especially in aiding my LatinX community in becoming more aware of their oral health. I can recall my dental care journey and its lack of education and care. I did not have health insurance growing up, and only visited the dentist outside of the country. Being put in a situation where having many dental cavities becomes normalized is not proper care for anyone. If I only knew then what I know now, I could have saved myself so much pain and agony. If I could reach one person and truly educate them in proper brushing and flossing and how preventative care is best care, that is a win for me!
This is why I now seek financial aid, I have been honored in being chosen to be among the first ever to travel to Cuba and offer dental treatment to its wonderful people! This is a historic event and one filled with a multitude of emotions including, honor and worry. Honor to have been selected among one of many, but worry about the financial sacrifices I have already overcome to simply stay enrolled in school are insurmountable.
Being a first-generation college student and a mother is a significant accomplishment and a unique experience. As the first person in my family to attend college, I have faced both challenges and opportunities along my path. With any amount you can find to offer for my mission trip my deepest gratitude is attached and the people of Cuba will be in wonderful hands.
Thank you all for reading my post,
I am grateful beyond words for this journey,
God bless us all,
Karla
