In March 2018, I travelled to Honduras on a mission trip, to help children recovering at a nutritional rehabilitation center. The experience was truly life-changing for me. I realized that part of my purpose in life is to use my education and privilege to impact as many people around the world as possible.
I was recently given the opportunity to travel to Samoa this summer, where the focus of the trip is to provide Community Resiliency Model (CRM) training. CRM training teaches communities about the psychological and physical impact of trauma, and how resiliency can be increased using specific skills. Part of our mission is to teach CRM to leaders within the community so that healing can continue when our team leaves. Another part of our mission is to promote the inclusion of mental health services in the healthcare system and throughout Samoan communities.
I am excited to join the team of Loma Linda University students and faculty because of the direct impact we can have on the people of Samoa. Part of my Doctoral Project (the project I must complete to graduate as a PsyD) involves the impact of trauma on psychological functioning. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to recover from trauma, and this trip allows me to fulfill the dream of directly helping others begin to heal.
The expense of the trip covers the roundtrip flight and my stay in Samoa. Any financial donation is greatly appreciated. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we travel abroad. Thank you for supporting me on my journey!
