Hi Everyone!
In less than 2 weeks, I will embark on the adventure of my lifetime while raising awareness & funds for an organization that is very dear to me. I have been involved with Africa New Life for a few years and have advocated on behalf of several children for sponsored education. This time, I’m focusing on their food program which provides school lunches to children who would otherwise get little or no food to eat. Eleven women (including me) have signed up to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in January 2020 to raise funds for this program & our team goal is to raise $200,000. In 2017, a group of 13 courageous women climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and were able to raise over $350,000 to build ANL’s medical facility in Kigali, Rwanda!! The Dream Medical Center opened last year and has pediatric care, prenatal care, dentistry, internal medicine, operating rooms, inpatient beds, and a whole lot more.
Following the progress of the Dream Medical Center (online & in person) re-kindled my desire to return to work as a registered nurse and I worked very hard for almost a year taking classes, obtaining certifications & applying for jobs. I was very excited when an offer came in April & I was able to start working in the Texas Medical Center in May! This job has allowed me to cover all of my expenses for the climb, so none of the money donated will fund my trip - it all goes to ANL.
I am climbing for Kenny & Welarisi (two boys whose education we sponsor), Africa New Life’s 10,000+ sponsored children, and for the amazing people of Rwanda. I have visited Rwanda twice in the last three years, visited with Kenny’s & Welarisi’s families, learned about Rwanda’s turbulent history and have come to love the people of this amazing & resilient country! I’ve seen first hand how phenomenal ANL’s program is and have witnessed the difference ANL & their supporters are making in the lives of Rwandans.
Please let me know if you have any questions - I would love to answer any questions and tell you more about Africa New Life.
Africa New Life's Food Program helps to provide school lunches to children in Rwanda who otherwise would get little or no food to eat. These children work hard and are dedicated to doing well in school so they can improve their families' situations and give back to their country when they grow up. But it’s hard to learn or grow without food!
An average meal in Rwanda costs $0.83, which means $25 provides food for a child for a month (30 meals). Feeding children and families is an extension of the gospel and provides students the stability and consistent nutrition necessary to complete their education.
