Backpacks of Hope is the 2013 Legacy Project from Help One Now, one of The Journey's Haiti partners. This December, they will raise $100,000 to split among our six leaders in Haiti, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia by selling 1,000 “backpacks” for $100 each.
All donations from Journeyer's will go directly to Pastor St Cyr and his school. Specific instructions on how to do so will be forthcoming. In the mean time, you can contribute to my fundraising goal and ensure your money goes directly to Pastor St Cyr and his students.
These will not be actual backpacks nor the physical things that backpacks often carry, such as notebooks or pencils. Rather, we are asking you to invest in what those things represent to students across the world: education, opportunity, HOPE.
For example, Pastor St Cyr will use the Legacy Project funds to fairly compensate the 8 teachers at our school who teach 240 children. My hope is that these funds will provide teacher salaries for an entire year.” "Teachers are the backbone of our educational system, and without ensuring that they receive the proper training, work environment and compensation, how can we expect the children to succeed? Ensuring that the teachers are prepared to do their job enables them to prepare the children for life."
