GREAT NEWS! We've decided to adopt from Colombia! We're so excited to give a child an opportunity to grow up in our home and teach him or her the best things that we know.
Our
Story:
We have been together since June of 2011, and got married on November 17, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. We were driven together by our Catholic faith and our passion for social justice and education. We both knew we wanted to be parents and tried to have biological children, but, after years of infertility we started to look at other options. We spoke to our local priest, family, and friends about our options. After several discussions, research, and prayer we decided on adoption.
We have always enjoyed traveling and have been very open to other cultures. Christina has made several mission trips to Mexico and even lived in Brazil for 6 months. Latin American culture has always been a passion of hers, and she continues to be an ESL certified teacher. This passion is what lead us to the country of Colombia. With its relative proximity and ease of travel, we believe it would be a perfect fit for us to adopt a child, or siblings, from Colombia.
A little information about Christina:
I was born to a Vietnam Veteran who worked as a social worker for the Veterans Administration and a public health nurse in the Bronx, New York, but was raised in Corvallis, Oregon. After graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education I moved to New Orleans to start my teaching career in 2009. I started working at a title one Catholic voucher school in 2010 and worked there for three and a half years before moving to Hammond. It has always been important to me to work in low-income, title one schools and I have continued that in Hammond.
A little information about John:
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. My parents were divorced since I was a very young, but worked well together to raise me. My mother works as a nurse and my father was a Manager for UPS. I attend several different colleges, but graduated from the University of Holy Cross with my Bachelors in Human Services and my Masters in Counseling. I worked for 7 years in the New Orleans public charter school system before moving to the Hammond area in 2015. I continue to work at a title one high school as a school counselor.
How can you help?
We've started a fundraiser on Pure Charity to raise the funding that we need to make our adoption a success. We have a donation goal of $25,000 that will go towards the initial cost of the adoption. It's been our dream to help give a child an opportunity like this and we hope that you will consider helping us make our dream a reality.
Would you kindly consider making a tax deducible donation? Every donation is important and will help make this adoption a success. Also, we would appreciate your willingness to share this with others who may want to help us in this amazing experience.
Thank you so much for being a part of our lives and helping accomplish something that's important to all of us!
