In October of 2016, right after Hurricane Matthew, Be Like Brit Team AfterMatt went to Haiti to build a home for someone in the Grand Goâve community affected by the hurricane. On the job site, there was a 12-year old boy, named Peterson Volmar, who jumped right in and helped the team. He showed up every day and was always hard-working, engaging, funny, and honest. He captured the hearts of our entire team. However, the reason he was on the job site is that he wasn’t in school. Soon thereafter, Peterson was enrolled in Tree of Hope Haiti’s educational Sponsorship Program, so he is now attending school at Mission of Hope International (MOHI).
Our group was impressed that Peterson came to help total strangers build a home for another total stranger. The goal of this trip is to return that favor to Peterson. While Team Peterson could certainly raise funds for this home to be built for Peterson’s family, instead we want to demonstrate to Peterson and his family that he made such a strong impression on us that many of us (and others who have met him on subsequent Be Like Brit trips) are returning to Haiti in March of 2019 specifically to build a home for Peterson and his family.
