Life Skills Programs are classes that are going on at the Freedom House throughout the year to help prepare our children for their future as adults. By Haitian Law on a child's 18th birthday they "age out" of the orphan care system. This program helps these children learn the basics of being part of a family such as chores, cooking, personal hygiene, social skills, problem solving, and budgeting money. This program also includes additional educational classes such as art, sewing, and dance. When they are ready to select an area of interest they will have classes available such as electrical, mechanical, and medical to name a few. It is our hope that these children will one day be prepared to take care of themselves and one day a family of their own.
