I have been given the opportunity to go to India for 12 days in September to serve persons with disabilities and to educate/train the therapists and teachers who work with them.  

I will be traveling with an organization that serves persons with disabilities in the USA and in developing countries around the world named “99 Balloons” (check them out at http://99balloons.org).

99 Balloons only goes where they are invited. The local school, faith and community leaders in Mussoorie, India are asking for support, training, and supplies.  Speech therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists will be training and doing hands-on work to help train local therapists, caregivers and other professionals to provide their own assessments and interventions long after we leave.   We also get to educate community, political, faith-based  leaders and families that a person with a disability has value and hope with tangible treatments available.  

As many of you know, I have an adult daughter with special needs, who is now deaf and receiving a cochlear implant in 2 weeks!  Jaime has been blessed in this country with high quality school, medical and community services.   Now, I have an opportunity to pay it forward to “another” who has so much less and is asking for help.

I started a fundraiser on Pure Charity to raise the funding that I need for this trip. If you can’t go, maybe you can help send.   :-)
