My heart has been calling me to go deeper and give more to the efforts against human trafficking. As the poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti struggles to care for it's most vulnerable population. With an estimated 430,000 orphans, it's not surprising that 150,000 - 500,000 children live in domestic servitude, subject to forced labor, beatings and sexual assault and abuse.
Ferrier Villiage consists of 5 homes, a community center and kitchen, a water cistern system, and a security wall. On May 10, 2013, they opened to some of Haiti’s most vulnerable children. Five homes that once sat empty are now full of children and loving house moms. Lives that seemed impossible are now full of hope. They continue to add on more homes, as well as a pre-school for the local community. They are currently at full capacity with 45 children, 10 House Moms, 1 cook, and 2 Directors. And 17 children have been reunified with family over the past 3 years.
So why am I going there? What can one person possibly do?I'm going there to love and support. I'm going to show the House Moms that they are worthy as well. To give compassion, hugs and just a small bit of recognition that they are seen. Possibly even some relief and confirmation that their work is important. I will see first hand what is happening in this community and become an advocate for the vulnerable, weak and disadvantaged. But I need your help to get there.
If you feel so inclined, I would greatly appreciate your support in this journey! Any amount is most welcomed and appreciated. God Bles
About 30,000 children live in orphanages in Haiti, even though four in five of those children have at least Thank you for your participation in a Help One Now Learning Journey! The Help One Now ethos is to remain invisible in our communities and focus our efforts on resourcing key leaders instead. Help One Now leads a limited number of Learning Journeys for committed, long-term supporters (Church Partners, Child Sponsors, Foundation members, and Love Hope Partners) each year. On these Journeys, emphasis will be placed on connecting with a community, building deep relationships with the local leaders, and brainstorming how you can unlock your human capital to partner together and support their work back home.
On this trip, we are excited for you to:
● meet and fall in love with our local leaders and the children they serve
● learn from our local leaders by hearing their stories and engaging in their communities. Doing this helps us, the visitors, understand the unique issues in different environments
● see the impact of our projects firsthand and gain a new understanding of how complex working in these communities can be
● become advocates of the country, people and orphans that you meet when you return home. You are the tribe; we need you to run with these stories and partner with us to make an impact
● utilize your human capital to train the house moms and leaders of the community on how to make use of trauma informed approaches to interacting with children
