Hey everybody! I have some big news!
It’s with immense excitement and joy that I get to announce I will be going to Uganda this November with Love Does! This non-profit, started by Bob Goff, fights for freedom and human rights for kids in conflict zones around the world, and they do some truly amazing and unbelievable work. Currently in Uganda, they run a primary & secondary school for kids seeking education and community, they operate several safe houses for young girls who have been exploited or sexually abused, and more recently they started a witch doctor school (yes, you read that correctly) to combat corruption with literacy. For 10 days, I will be challenged to live and love boldly as I become familiar with the projects they’re working on and, more importantly, living alongside the incredible people they serve.
If you would like to partner with me on this crazy adventure, here are three ways you can!
1) Financial Support. To be very candid, I’ve historically shied away from opportunities like this because money has always been a seemingly insurmountable barrier for me. However, for the first time in my life, I’m taking a giant leap of faith (or, more aptly, cannonballing into the deep end) and trusting that if I was meant to go on this trip, then all the details will fall into place. So even though the thought of asking people for money instantly makes me start sweating all over, here we are: The trip itself costs $4,620 (which covers everything from airfare, lodging, food, etc.), but doesn't include some additional costs of vaccines, visa fee, and supplies. A donation of literally any amount, big or small, would be tremendously helpful and I would be eternally grateful for your support!
2) Books. There’s a big need for books (for ages 5-13) in their school libraries, so I want to bring as many books as I can possibly fit on the airplane! Love Does created the following wish list, but I’ll happily bring over any extra books you have lying around. If you’d like to help me with this, shoot me a message and I’ll send you my mailing address or I can coordinate with you if you live locally in Portland, Oregon: www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/RXGOJA4D339U
3) Prayers. I would love your prayers over this trip. Please pray for God to orchestrate this trip to his glory, and that I would experience nothing but joy as I follow after him to Uganda. Please also pray that God would not only open my eyes to the work I’m called to do there, but that he would sing bravery and courage over my heart to radically, fearlessly, and recklessly love those around me. Finally, please pray that all the details of this trip would come together, but ultimately that my heart would remain postured towards gratitude, awe, and whimsy for the work Jesus is doing in Uganda.
Finally, if you would like to learn more about Love Does, check out their website: https://lovedoes.org/ And if you haven’t read the book that changed my life, “Love Does,” let me know and I’ll send you a copy.
