It's time for another big adventure! I am headed back to Africa! I went on a life-changing trip to Uganda with some family friends in 2006, hearing God say I would be back on that beautiful continent someday. The time is now, 10 years later to be exact!
- Time Allocation - A Jesus Church has partnered with Hands of Hope for the last 10 years - one of it's primary goals being to minister to orphans. Zimbabwe has the most orphans per capita in the world with 1.8 million of the 14 million population orphaned. This trip I will be a part of in August will consist of continuing to build on the relationships AJC has established with the 60 kids it sponsors along with connecting with other children, pastors, and projects in the community surrounding Harare, the nation’s capital. The team will minister through taking the kids on retreats, providing skills training camps, and hosting VBS. Nearly 100% of the work and time on this trip is compassionate care work with orphans.
- Baking skillz - In addition, we hope to be able to purchase a stove for one of the homes before we arrive. At Westgate Haven, live 10 young ladies (who have been orphaned) and their Auntie Josie. Josie has dreamed of getting a new stove to be able to cook and prepare daily meals for the girls and to use for baking and cooking lessons. These lessons would provide a sustainable skill for the girls to use as a source of income in the future, and allow them to begin a catering service out of their home. Assuming we get the funds and stove in time, I will get to spend some time in the kitchen baking with the girls and their Auntie Josie. Since this is in my wheelhouse, this is something I am really looking forward to! - Your contribution - Obviously this trip needs to be completely inundated with prayer. In addition to finances needed, we definitely need prayer for safety, smooth logistics, team cohesion, protection, provision, but mostly that we would see God move in crazy ways as we continue to build relationships with the beautiful people of Zimbabwe.
- Last, but not least - I want to say a GREAT BIG "Thank you" ahead of time for any resources (whether financial or time in prayer!) you give towards making this trip the best that it can be!
I look forward to sharing the many stories I bring back with me!
