LLU School of Nursing Botswana SUMMER 2018
Hello everyone, thank you so much in advance for visiting my fundraising page. My name is Marissa Overton and I am currently a student of the Loma Linda University, School of Nursing program. The most important value of Loma Linda University is to "To Make Man Whole". My nursing program provides their students with many opportunities to promote optimal patient care in rural underdeveloped countries. I was selected with fifteen other students to participate in a once in a lifetime experience to travel to another country and provide care to communities in need.
Each summer, students from LLU's School of Nursing travel to Botswana as part of their Public Health Nursing (PHN) course. The PHN course focuses on the optimal wellness of the client community in partnership with local nursing staff serving the community often in Primary Health Centers.
Upon acceptance into Loma Linda University, it has always been a dream of mine to partake in a missionary trip and care for those that are less fortunate than us. In Botswana I will be educating the community on primary prevention, providing health care, as well as helping with delivering babies. Over the past few years I have been fully dedicated while seeking out all opportunities possible that will aid me in reaching my full potential as a professional nurse.
Nursing students who have participated in this international experience have found it life-changing, eye-opening, and an inspiration for themselves and people with whom they have shaped their experience.
I am very excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity, and every donation is a blessing. Please support me by helping me reach my goal of $1000 to participate in this trip. These expenses will include air fair, room and board, and food. If you are unable to donate I understand and ask for you to keep my group and I in your prayers. Thank you.
