On May 21st, 2020 I will be joining a building project that will provide a family in need with a new home! Here’s some of the backstory to fill you in …
Fortaleza, the capital city of Ceará, in Brazil has a population of 2.643 million people and is known for its beaches which are punctuated by red cliffs, palm trees, dunes and lagoons. However, Brazil is also at war against sexual exploitation, sex trafficking, violence and drug addiction. Through the influence of social media, Brazil has seen the number of younger generations involved with crime and drugs increase. For some, it’s a journey from which there is no coming back. But amidst the pain there's still a deep yearning for Christ.
About a year ago Hear the Cry had a scouting team in Brazil and during their time in Fortaleza, they met a girl named Maria whose 12th birthday took place before their departure. They also learned Maria had never had a party, received presents or had a birthday cake … so they changed that. Talk about the best, loudest, happiest birthday ever! In doing this the team learned that Maria lives with 11 other family members in a collapsing mud/stick house. It’s common for them to be stung by wasps at night while they sleep, and their dirt floor is frequently flooded by torrential downpours because of their proximity to the Amazon. Not awesome, but an easy fix for us.
This is where I am asking for your help.
My request is that you prayerfully consider contributing towards this building project. I’m looking to raise $3,200.00 which includes airfare, food, lodging, insurance, ground transportation, and supplies. No contribution is too small, and anything donated is so greatly appreciated. Please also consider sharing this page on your own social media account if you're unable to financially contribute at this time. With your support our team will be building a large structure used primarily for sleeping with the kitchen and bathrooms outside. Their new home will have concrete floors, brick and mortar walls and a clay shingle roof.
Through your continued support Hear the Cry is able to jump in to help and partner with nonprofits working hard to partner with Brazilian kids and young adults. When not building we’ll also be helping new and existing partners that fight to rescue those at risk. We want to equip local leaders to do the same work with others in their own country. We are going out to give them hope to fight evil and become survivors, not victims.
