"Matumba"

“Matumba” a Shona word meaning temporary, but to the Mashoko Christian Hospital it is a word that has a much more significant meaning.  Eternal.  Lives are being changed eternally in southeast Zimbabwe because of the work of this hospital.  

The Mashoko hospital uses the Matumba to house expecting mothers who come from distant villages to deliver their children in a safe, medical environment.  While living in these temporary homes these mothers are exposed to the gospel on a daily basis.  The hospital makes it a priority to meet the medical needs of these mothers and emphasizes the importance of a surrendered life to Jesus.  

This ministry, of reaching out to these expecting mothers is very important to the advancement of the gospel in the area.  With the success of this ministry and the lives that are being changed a problem has presented itself, overcrowding.  

The hospital currently has room for 50-60 women to live comfortably.  However they often have 100+ women living in very cramped quarters. This overcrowding does have a negative affect on the women who come and stay.  

Lifebridge's Goal: 

Lifebridge Christian Church Decatur, AL has adopted this Matumba Project.  We are raising money and material to double the living space for this ministry.  We have a goal of raising $25,000 to meet this need.  Local vendors are donating tools and supplies to be shipped from the states to Zimbabwe.  Teams will be sent over next summer to help construct these 2 new houses.  

This fundraiser is for $2,000, that will help purchase some of the materials needed to build additional space for mothers, and to ship to Zimbabwe.
