We are super excited that you are interested in traveling with us on our 2019 ADRA Connections (CNX) Extreme Trip to Cusco, Perú! This is going to be the largest collegiate volunteer trip ever. We will have nearly 300 students from Adventist colleges/universities from the United States and South America. This may sound like a big group, but our project is massive. We are going to finish building a three-story elementary school in the mountain community of Chillihuani, just south of Cusco, and we want YOU there!
To get a quick idea of where we're going, check out our Teaser Video: ADRA CNX Extreme 2019 Teaser Video
Dates The trip will take place July 21 – August 4, 2019. ADRA CNX will have staff waiting for your group on July 21 at the Cusco airport (CUZ) and take you by bus to our base camp, which is two hours away. This is where all groups will meet. If your group wants to fly in earlier, you are welcomed to do so; just let us know beforehand and make sure you're there to meet us at the airport on July 21st.
Project Location & Living Conditions The project is in a remote Andes mountain community called Chillihuani located to the south of Cusco. We will be staying each night at Camp Chuquicahuana, run by ADRA Perú. We will be camping in tents (6-person tents will be provided to your group) under covered shelters with brick walls. We will have access to showers and bathrooms with running hot water. Keep in mind that the seasons are opposite in the southern hemisphere, so it will be winter. Also, we will be up in the mountains, so expect colder temperatures (High 65°F/ Low 40°F). The mornings tend to be colder, but the sun warms things up nicely throughout the day, even in winter. Bring plenty of warm clothes with coats and sweatshirts, hats and mittens 😊.
Group Size Each school will have 30 spaces for their students, but we will flex/shrink as needed to try to let as many go who have the desire. Don't wait to apply for the scholarship and register for the trip, because we only have so many available.
Cost per Person
Airfare and Fees You will have to coordinate your own airfare as a group with your university’s Mission Department. The cost of the airfare will not be sent to ADRA as you will give that directly to the airline. The cost of this trip does NOT include any visa fees, passport application fees, vaccinations, luggage fees, or transportation to/from airport in the US. Basically, once you get to Cusco on July 21, we’ll take care of everything else.
Contacts Work directly with your Mission Department on campus to discuss the group and travel details. Adam Wamack and Cassie Hales are the ADRA CNX team leaders and will be your main points of contact for any specific questions you might have. Once you register for the trip and start fundraising, you will receive the full Trip Guide with FAQs, packing list and more details about travel and the location where we’ll be staying, so keep an eye out for that. We hope to see you there,
