I am thrilled to join a team of African American women being led by poet and
author, Amena Brown! Amena first visited Rwanda in 2016. As a result of that
visit, she had a dream to return to the country with women who would connect
and serve the ministry, Africa New Life, in Rwanda.
This invitation resonated in my heart because I have always longed to visit
the continent of Africa. Additionally, the opportunity directly aligns with my
life's mission to intentionally serve as a credible witness of Christ's
leadership to engage, equip, and empower people you live and lead on
purpose.
For years I have been compelled to equip and prepare women and men for
leadership, and for them to work together to advance the kingdom of God.
When we survey the global landscape through research documented by
journalists Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn in the national bestseller,
"Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide"
or the Christian worldview presented by author and theologian, Carolyn Custis
James in her response, “Half the Church: Recapturing God’s Global Vision for
Women," we understand that sharing the gospel requires an intentional
engagement of women.
My contributions to the trip will be offering leadership and mentoring
training for women and girls, and to support their entrepreneurship efforts.
This trip will also give me the opportunity to explore the African New Life
programs of: child sponsorship, sewing and cosmetology vocational training for
women, school and education programs for children, and a school of theology for
pastors. This fact-finding mission is necessary for consideration if my nonprofit,
Leadership LINKS, Inc. is to consider a partnership to support future programs.
I am humbled that the girls and women of Africa New Life want to hear from
us, and I am excited to learn from them! I am also looking forward to serving
and learning from the Woman to Woman traveling team. We are a group of life
coaches, teachers, artists, mothers, daughters, engineers, entrepreneurs and
more who are coming together for the first time to uplift, and learn from each
other and from the women in Rwanda.
Rwanda is a country that knows genocide and violence, but the Rwandan people
also know healing, reconciliation and rebuilding. To lead in the work of love,
healing, and justice, Black American women and Rwandan women are in a unique
position to learn from and equip each other and the universal church.
We will spend our time in Rwanda facilitating reciprocal learning workshops
about self-esteem with young women from the boarding school and entrepreneurial
exchange sessions with the Africa New Life women by offering entrepreneurship
and practical skills training to ensure the viability of their businesses which
will support their families and the entire community.

Here’s How You Can Help
$3727.50 covers the trip of
each participant. Any money raised above and beyond will be used to sponsor more
women in Africa New Life vocational training programs.
Many have asked what you can
do to support the work of justice and community. This is an opportunity to recognize
and support the work of Black women here in America and abroad in Rwanda to
build strong communities, know their roots and be equipped as leaders,
students, and entrepreneurs.
Thank you for your support of
Africa New Life and Woman to Woman!
Amena Brown
