Clear The Ground So Someone Can Build A New Beginning
The “New Beginnings” project is a bridge housing community for people in need of shelter in northwest Arkansas. We are committed to a low-barrier approach which accepts individuals experiencing homelessness without preconditions to entry- such as sobriety or treatment – and connects them to permanent housing.
Our program welcomes people into a safe, supportive environment. Then we work with community partners to ensure individuals with the deepest needs are connected with permanent housing and appropriate services.
Currently, New Beginnings is in the pre-construction phase. After receiving bids a few months ago that far exceeded the reasonable expectations on cost for the project, we have gone through a value engineering process. The design has been tweaked with program functionality and costs in mind and a new design with a feasible construction plan has resulted. The City has granted approval administratively to the changes which will avoid the need to start over with planning or large scale development. As soon as the architectural drawings are finalized, we will be submitting them to the city to obtain our actual building permit. Upon receipt of this permit, we will begin moving dirt immediately.
The cost of the project is about what we anticipated, with the exception of approximately $235K of site development costs that were not envisioned, but are required to take a completely undeveloped piece of wooded land and create a project like this on it.
We fully expect to begin and complete construction before next winter so that we can not experience another winter without the New Beginnings Community being available to those who so desperately need it. We ask that you consider helping us reach our funding goal to help us get one step closer to starting construction, and one step closer to clearing the ground so someone can start a new beginning.
