Through our Sunrise Scholars Program, we are investing in more than just education. We are investing in the hope of a brighter tomorrow. We are empowering students to pursue the opportunities this world holds, to step into their potential, and to grow into confident, compassionate changemakers.

In Uganda, access to quality education is a significant challenge. Less than 25% of primary school children make it to secondary school, and nearly half of school-aged children have never stepped foot in a classroom. According to UNICEF, children drop out or never enroll due to the high cost of school supplies and unsafe learning environments. Public schools have significant entry barriers, lack trained and qualified teachers, and are burdened by overcrowding, teacher absenteeism, and violence. (UNICEF 2019).

Every child deserves a safe, supportive education—no matter what. That is why we partner with Ajuna African Style to provide scholarships for K–12 students in the Ugandan communities where our artisans live and work. These scholarships help cover tuition at schools where children are truly seen, cared for, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Every scholarship is a spark of transformation—not only for the student but for their family, their community, and the world they will one day help shape.  

Since 2014, this program has supported students from Kindergarten to 12th Grade in the Ugandan community where our first artisan partners are located. With over $150,000 invested, we're helping families cover school tuition and keeping kids in school.

Tania’s Story

Tania’s journey is one of quiet strength, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of something more. From a young age, she faced circumstances that could have easily closed doors—financial hardship, limited access to specialized healthcare, and the weight of uncertainty about what the future might hold.

That belief found solid ground when she received the Sunrise Scholarship. With that support came not just tuition but hope, stability, and the freedom to focus on what mattered most: learning, growing, and becoming. The scholarship gave Tania the opportunity to step into her full potential—something she had always carried within her, just waiting to be unlocked.

Today, Tania is a proud high school graduate. Her diploma is more than a piece of paper—it’s a symbol of perseverance, a triumph over adversity, and a reflection of how powerful it is to invest in a child’s future.
