Along the winding dirt road that ascends to the Rainbow
Mountains of Peru, there is a little town called Japura. Everyday, busloads of
tourists pass through the sleepy community on their way to the famous tourist
destination, but none stop. In a rural town without electricity, there is
little to attract the attention and money of those who pass by. The families
who call Japura home continue to struggle for survival.
ADRA Connections works to provide these families with the
resources they need to build a sustainable future. With one solar panel system,
a household has more time to work, study, cook, and play. By installing solar
panels, ADRA Connections creates opportunities that last after the sun has set.
- A solar panel system consists of solar charge
regulator, panels, and the training necessary to sustain the system
- 45 families have already received a complete
solar panel system
- 50 more families have already been selected to
receive their own solar panel systems
- Thanks to solar panels, these families have more
time in the evening to make artisanal goods to appeal to tourists
You don’t need to be an engineer or electrician to help someone like Carmen. With ADRA Connections and the ADRA Peru Solar Panel Project, you can give a small gift that will have a big impact.
“Before the solar
panels, we lived in darkness. Now we can cook at night and my children can
study at night. We don’t worry about light anymore.”
