Andrea and Madalyn head to Haiti!

During the week of June 14th, we will volunteer in rural Haiti outside of Port-au-Prine with an organization called World Wide Village (WWV).

Why Haiti?

• Haiti is roughly the size of Maryland, but is home to over 10 million people.
• 80% of Haitians live in poverty with an average annual income of around $400 US.
• Only 52.9% of those over the age of 15 are able to read and write.
• Because of past political corruption and misappropriation of resources, many Haitians continue to remain in extreme poverty throughout their lives.

In the midst of this severe situation, through training and hard work, WWV believes it is possible for Haitian families to break the bonds of poverty. Today WWV partners with Haitians through an E-Approach to poverty alleviation: Engage, Evaluate, Educate, Enlist, Empower, Entrust, and Encourage.

Throughout our week with WWV, we will spend most of our time working in a summer camp and doing small work projects to support families in the community. We look forward to serving others, experiencing a new culture, and sharing this adventure together. Madalyn has already started learning some Haitian Creole to prepare!
