This will be my first medical mission trip. I am thankful and excited for the opportunity to participate and minister to very needy people both spiritually and medically. Honduras is an important country in Central America with a population of about 9.2 million. We will do our work in the city of Copan Ruinas in the western most part of the country bordering Guatamala. The main thing you find about this area is its tie to Mayan culture. "Ruinas" or ruins lets us know that we will see archeological findings dated back to the Myan Empire. Some stats you see state that Honduras is a "Christian" nation. When speaking to some pastors they say this is simply not true. They believe that at most 20% of the countries population has any kind of religious affiliation and most of those who admit having a religion do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This trip will include a medical component so we can take care of the physical man but we will also be sharing the gospel and doing discipleship so we can take care of the spritual needs.
