Precious Plastic is an international organization that works with communities to encourage plastic recycling and repurposing that plastic into useful items. With the information and tools from Precious Plastics, we the students from Pacific Union College have collaborated with the Mana Island SDA school in order to implement an innovative project for the residents of Mana Island.
With Mana Island located in the South Pacific Ocean, it is common to see plastic waste wash up onto the beach shores. Furthermore, with the Island's economy dominated by the Resort and Tourism industry, many of the island residents often have few options for financial independence.
Having had a connection with Mana Island SDA school for many years, us PUC students feel like implementing this Precious Plastic initiative in Mana Island can have an enormous impact on the island and it residents by keeping the island clean and providing the residents with an outlet for financial independence.
The funds raised from this fundraiser will go towards the initial startup fee for this project, which includes purchasing of essential tools (i.e. shredder, extruder, and injector), shipping costs and recycling bins. Every donation is important and will enable for successful implementation of this project. Additionally, sharing this fundraiser will go a long way in helping us meet our goal and making this project a reality.
Thank you so much for taking the time for reading about our project and helping us make a difference in the lives of the residents of Mana Island!
