The LLU CRNA Program has teamed up with the LLUMC Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery to provide care for the people of Honduras. The facility, Hospital Adventista Valle de Angeles (HAVA), sits up in the mountains in a rural location where Hondurans often come for peace, tranquility and healing.
Each year for the past 5 years I have been a member of mission team delivering health care to people in Honduras . When folks find out I do this project, the response is usually the same, "oh, that's so giving of you," or, "wow, I want to do something like that — you know, give back." I always smile and say thank you and then I try to explain. Going on medical missions is the most selfish thing I do, every year. I won't lie. I love helping people with the skills I have. I love being part of a team on an adventure. But to tell the truth, the best part is how good I feel when I get back home.I'm so thankful of what this country is giving to all of us .
The goal of the LLU CRNA program and the Department of ENT Surgery is simple... Go where God has led us and care for His people. The relationship with HAVA has richly blessed our CRNA students and ENT residents. This experience allows them to use the skills they are learning for a bigger purpose. The opportunity to care for people using less than the modern conveniences offered in the United States allows the students to be creative, adapt and learn to be resourceful. Additionally, through the Global Health Institute (GHI) and Students for International Mission Service (SIMS), we are able to obtain necessary supplies and raise funds to support our efforts.
