Last summer I had the opportunity to escape into God’s beauty at a camp called Hume Lake. Little did I know that what I experienced there would greatly alter my future. While sitting in chapel on a Thursday morning, I felt as though I was being called to the mission field. Myself, along with many other students, were shown a video about the mission work that Hume is currently involved in. Looking around, a lot of my peers were sadly asleep, and I was confused as to why these pictures and clips weren't affecting them as much as they affecting me. That day, I spoke with my high school pastor about how impacted I was; in response, he told me that he would do everything possible to organize an overseas missions trip that I could go on before my high school graduation. I couldn’t have foreseen that opportunity coming so quickly.
I would like to share with you the ministry opportunity that I have now been given. From July 8 to July 20, 2015, God has provided a chance for me to travel to the city of Damak in Eastern Nepal with 10 other students from my high school youth group under the leadership of Sunridge Community Church and e3 Partners Ministry.
If you were to ask people in the region of Nepal that we are going to if they have heard of Jesus, their response would be something along the lines of: “Is that a man in my village?” When I first heard this, it broke my heart. It excites me to know that I will be part of a team that will have the opportunity to introduce people to Jesus and his love. The way we will accomplish this is through the focus of our outreach. We will be to partnering with Nepali churches to host and put on VBS (Vacation Bible School), a strategic program that engages children in prayer, worship and the study of Jesus in a manner that is developmentally-geared for their young minds and hearts. Our desire is to not only reach the young people with the gospel of Christ, but to reach their parents as well.
