Few cities have the attractions that Barcelona naturally enjoys. Beaches, museums, and beautiful public parks make it a draw for locals and tourists alike. With a population of 1.6 million people and a metropolitan population of 5 million, it stands as Spain’s second largest city. Barcelona has become a modern hub for fashion, entertainment, science, and the arts. But the city also enjoys a rich heritage as an old Roman settlement, dating back to 5,500 B.C.
A Magnet for Immigration
Over the last several decades, Spain has become a magnet for immigrants all over Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. It’s geographic location along the Mediterranean coast has made it a regional crossroads for centuries. In 1981, just 198,000 immigrants lived in Spain. Today, that number has exploded to 4.6 million, making up 14% of the country’s total population. Of those, an estimated 750,000 remain unreached.
What We’re Doing
This expedition is one of our first efforts to reach Spain. By touching Barcelona, we have an opportunity to engage the entire country. This trip will focus on reaching the vast immigrant population. We will work with local partners to share the Gospel among these people. As individuals receive Christ, they will be organized into new small groups where they’ll learn how to take the next steps in their faith. These small groups will then become the seeds for future churches.
In just one week, you can help launch a new Gospel movement among those with a limited understanding of Christ. Are you ready for the adventure to begin?
