Our vision is to kick off 2021 with the ability to empower 1,000 people and their families through job opportunities. But that’s not it. We are also working tirelessly to provide 1,000+ families with permanent access to quality medical care.
Your generosity is creating a tangible impact on lives in Haiti. Second Chance has a vision to see the Haitian people empowered by sustainable and dignified employment as a part of a larger effort to promote economic growth and a fight to keep families together. More than half of Haiti’s people live on less than $2 a day and it costs $3 a day to have basic needs met. The orphan and child slavery crisis in the country is largely fueled by a lack of economic opportunity.
Job creation has proven to succeed where perpetual aid measures have failed. Employment means provision, stability, and preservation of the family. One person in a family consistently working often supports up to ten others. Our hope is to see the Haitian people holding the keys to their own economic recovery, envisioning a brighter future for themselves and generations to follow.
Since the beginning of our work in Haiti, we have been dedicated to fulfilling that vision that God has given us to provide basic medical care to some of the most vulnerable people in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. COVID-19 has reminded us all of how needed and appreciated it is to have access to health care.
In the past 6 months, our Second Chance family has experienced two devastating losses. Two young women, only 21 and 32 years of age have died due to very treatable illnesses. We must grapple with the fact that if these women had access to better healthcare, they would still be alive today.
We are ready to be a part of the solution for 1,000+ families in one of our serving communities by building a medical clinic at our House of Hope property. In 2019 we asked the community what they needed most, held public meetings, and gained insight from leaders in the area. Everyone agreed that providing a clinic for the community was crucial for the health, economic development, and psychological state of those in the surrounding community.
Second Chance was originally founded in hope of providing immediate aid to children living in orphanages. God has graciously opened our eyes and has prompted us into action to focus on EMPOWERING people to rise up rather than stimulating the problem through aid focused ministry.
Please consider partnering with us as we fight to provide hand-ups rather than handouts and create healthy and self-reliant households! Consider partnering with us and finding a friend to join us as well.
