The state of Uttar Pradesh sits along India’s northern border with Nepal. The most populous state in India, it is home to over 217 million people. That’s roughly the populations of Germany, Britain, and France combined! If it was its own independent country, Uttar Pradesh would be the world’s fifth-most populous state.
As the very home of Hinduism, Uttar Pradesh claims some of India’s most popular tourist destinations, including the Taj Mahal. Given its geopolitical significance, Uttar Pradesh has often been the focal point of Indian history, dating back to 600 B.C.
The largely rural landscape is often disrupted by small villages consisting of mud huts and thatch roofs. While much progress has been made, the region remains incredibly poor. One-fifth of the population are Dalits, formerly known as “untouchables.” This is made worse by the rapidly growing population.
Over 649 people groups reside within Uttar Pradesh. All but 23 of them are considered unreached. We are on mission to reach these people with the Good News.
Each day we will have the opportunity to visit rural villages and interact with the people through our translators. You will have the opportunity provide reading glasses and HIV education, share your spiritual journey, and introduce people to Jesus. Most have never even heard of Him!
Once we find a welcoming home in a village, we will form a new small group called a Sat Sang (Hindi for “truth fellowship”) where they will discuss and learn more about Jesus and grow in faith.
We typically start one “Sat Sang” (small group) during the week for every person who makes a commitment to go on the trip. You can have a lasting impact in an unreached village in Uttar Pradesh. Are you ready for the adventure to begin?
