TAYLOR GALLOWAY’S FUNDRAISING LETTER FOR JACMEL HAITI MISSIONS TRIP MARCH 24 - APRIL 2 2017
Trip Cost: $2,300 Due date March 10, 2017
Moving to Portland this past year has stretched me in so many different ways. I moved up here to focus on school, but the lifestyle that came with it has impacted me more than I imagined. I think it's appropriate to admit that adjusting to the lifestyle of living with my grandparents has been a struggle. But as it turns out I am so thankful for it, because it has forced me to lean into Jesus like I have never done before.
The past 6 years I have definitely done my own thing. I stopped going to church because I couldn't stand so many hypocritical Christians that consume the church. But I've been no better than any of them. I never walked away from my faith but I stopped growing in it. I became the farthest thing from Christ-Like; I became the ugliest version of myself. But the most amazingly part is that the Lord has ALWAYS met me exactly where I am, loving me through it all.
I tried a couple churches in Portland, but I never connected with any of them. I finally couldn't take the pain, heartache, and loneliness anymore so I finally tried Bridgetown Church and it has changed my life. The Lord has always known my heart and knows what feeds me, and this church and the friendships I've gained are remarkable! I've never wanted to be more like Jesus like I do now. I've finally found the WANT in my heart. Where I daily have to consciously purpose in my heart that this life is not mine and for the Lord to use me in whatever way possible. I still fail miserably at times, but feeling the Spirit and seeing Him in my life has been the greatest transformation in my life so far.
I use to feel so called to missions when I was younger. I had the opportunity to serve in Mexico in high school, but haven't felt a desire to serve in years. The very first time I heard about this missions trip to Haiti I automatically felt the Lord put it on my heart. I would love the opportunity to share the love of Jesus to the people of Haiti, and I can only imagine what the Lord has planned to teach me through it.
With all of this being said, please friends and family, I ask for your support. I ask for your prayer as the Lord is going to start preparing my heart for this trip. Prayers for the safety of the team and the people we will interact with. Prayers that the Lord's Will and ONLY His Will be done. And that I will be able to receive the donations needed in order to participate on this trip. If you are financially capable, I ask you to please pray about donating, because I will not be able to go without your support.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my future endeavors... So excited to share this journey with all of you!
In Jacmel, everything we do is centered around a thriving church in a rural community called Restoration Ministries. Restoration has many programs for the community including a school, a feeding program for the children, and a computer center for people to go online. They also build houses for people in need.
Teams working along side of Haitians all day, will help with building or manual labor projects that the church is working on. We have helped to build homes, a playground, worked on painting projects and helped in the community. The afternoons are spent helping with the feeding program, playing with the children and often offering a week of fun with Vacation Bible School.
The people in Jacmel will steal you hearts!
