El Limonal is the trash-dump community that started it all for this organization called SuNica. And all they want for Christmas is to be able to build this Community Center for a
special group of kids in El Limonal!
This facility is about bringing hope where there's despair and light where there's darkness!
Our Piece Of SuNica's Christmas List
Our vision for this rec center is for it to be flexible and accessible so that those within the community can take full advantage of its resources. We're talking nighttime soccer games, concerts, regular worship services — all of which require electricity. We've turned on the water in two communities. Now it's time to turn on the lights.
Help us make it happen with a donation today!!
The Backstory:
If you’ve found your way to the bottom of this page; then surely you’re wondering, why should I help build this community center? Fair question.
SuNica is an organization dedicated to making Disciples of Jesus through clean water, education, and mentorship. It’s founders have been working in Nicaragua for ten years and in this community for seven. They are a registered 501(c)(3) non profit in the USA and have NGO status in Nicaragua. They are led by their founders Alan Wilser and Josh & Betty Pease who serve on a full-time basis along with 13 other staff (mostly Nicaraguans). The organization is guided by a stateside Board of Directors that you can read about in the About Us page of their website.
This facility will give SuNica the space they need to anchor their work into this community and therefore into the lives of these precious kids. They are intentionally serving the spiritual and physical well-being of this community. The center will be a place where SuNica’s local staff and mentors can be with these kids in a safe environment every week day afternoon. It’s a place where they can mandate study hall hours in exchange for futsal hours. :0) It’s a place where we can host a professional counselor, who can be available to talk through some of the difficult things that our kids are dealing with, including domestic and sexual violence.
Here’s a short list of some of the beautiful things that will and could happen in this community center:
- Young Life’s weekly club in El Limonal
- SuNica’s Soccer League
- SuNica’s weekly programming including Bible Study sessions
- School plays (check out the stage)
- Perhaps even a church (God willing)
- Vocational Training:
The construction of this facility will be a complete game-changer for SuNica’s work in El Limonal. We hope you’ll support this piece of The List Campaign TODAY.
