Every 90 seconds a woman dies in childbirths somewhere in the world.
With a population of 10 million, Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. As a result, Haiti is the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere to give birth. Most of these maternal deaths are caused by eclampsia, sepsis, and postpartum hemorrhage (bleeding). In other words, most of these deaths are preventable!
In August of 2015, Nurse Timay began her journey to become a Skilled Birth Attendant (Midwife). On September 18, 2016, she graduated from the program. Timay is the first, and only midwife in Dèsarmes, playing an essential role in our fight against maternal and infant mortality.
In addition to providing prenatal, delivery and postnatal care to expectant mothers; she will also oversee the community and teenage girls outreach programs.
We invite you to be part of making an impact in the lives of women and families in Dèsarmes, Haiti!
