First of all, thank you! Thank you, for taking the time to visit this page and get to know more about South Sudan and myself. I am honored to share a little of my story and how God has allowed me to see HIS work in my life and others.
In January of 2013 I was blessed to part of a 4 man team that traveled to South Sudan for sole purpose of sharing the Gospel. During this trip we walked side by side with our Sudanese Brothers and Sisters in Christ in proclaiming the Gospel. We traveled to Yei, South Sudan first and then to the remote village of Kagwada, South Sudan. It was amazing to see the Lord at work and it changed my life forever. It did not take long for me to realize it was not a matter of IF I would return to South Sudan but WHEN would I return. I am happy to report that my next trip took place in October of 2014.
During this October trip, as all other trips, we focused on training and sharing the Gospel within the community. We go out typically two by two and use Luke 10 as our blueprint. When we find a house of peace we stay there, share the Gospel, and train those who now have Jesus as their Lord and Savior to go out and share with family members and friends how Jesus has changed their lives. We will return the next day and share more truth from Scripture. We will also ask who they shared the Gospel with. It’s amazing when you see someone new to the faith lead another person to know who Jesus is and they too come to faith. I am so thankful that the Lord has allowed me to see Him work in the lives of others.
My next two trips both took place in 2016 with the first being at a refugee camp within South Sudan. We spent our time sharing the Gospel with a highly Muslims populated community. We came across many that had never even heard the name of Jesus. I am happy to report that many claimed Jesus as their Lord and Savior during this trip and churches were started. Reports from this camp nearly a year later reveal growth in the Lord continues at this refugee camp! During this trip we did see some opposition to the Gospel as 3 churches were burned down during our time there. We ever felt directly threatened and the peace of the Jesus was amazing. I look forward to returning to this camp when the Lord allows. Please pray for the people within this camp and that a return trip may come sooner than later. My second trip of 2016 took place in October. Due to the conflict access to areas of South Sudan have become very limited. Therefore the October 2016 trip took me to a Sudanese refugee camp in Northern Uganda. Sudanese have sought out safety and shelter in multiple camps. I was able to meet with Sudanese Brothers & Sisters in Christ and discuss their plight and their ministry within the camps. What an encouragement to see their love and trust in the Lord. During the trip we also did some training and went throughout the community sharing the Gospel. We were able to share the Gospel with Muslims, non-believers and animists during this trip. We saw people from each of these groups claim Jesus as their Lord. What an awesome experience. I was also able to share the Gospel with 120 high school students at a Ugandan school as well. Many already had a relationship with Christ but 20 others who did not came to know the Lord that day.
Why Sudan and South Sudan?
South Sudan has experienced decades of war. Many people have lost loved ones to war, been displaced from their homes by war, live in the bush or live in refugee camps. Many search for hope in alcohol, false religions, and many other "things." Some of the last words Jesus gave to us as His followers was to Go and make disciples of ALL nations. God has placed the Sudanese people on my heart and has allowed me to witness HIS hand at work in the lives of the Sudanese. The fields are ready for the harvest in South Sudan and the LORD has given you and I both the opportunity and blessing of being part of HIS plan in South Sudan. Please pray for the Sudanese people.
What is the purpose of the trip and what does it look like?
During an expedition to South Sudan the purpose of the trip is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ! This is typically done by partnering with local born again Sudanese believers and going from tukel to tukel (house to house) sharing the Gospel. This may last for 30 minutes or several hours. During the trip we also equip and encourage Sudanese believers to make disciples that make disciples (2 Timothy 2:2), plant new churches and spend time strengthening existing churches. Our local partners are committed to following up with those who make professions of faith throughout the week and will establish new churches in those areas. Another opportunity that presents itself on Sunday's is that we are given the opportunity to preach at a local church. This usually takes place under a mango tree or in an open air church structure. Being given the opportunity to simply share the truth about Jesus Christ and witnessing God transform lives is extremely humbling.
Who can go to South Sudan?
YOU can!
Want to travel to the ends of the earth, one of the last frontiers waiting to be explored and share the Word of God? I invite you to join me on a trip to South Sudan to serve our LORD along with our Sudanese Brothers and Sisters in Christ. A prayer and request I have heard from the Sudanese every time is that more laborers come to proclaim HIS Gospel. Luke 10:2 reads, “And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” Please pray with me that laborers are raised up and sent to South Sudan to share the Gospel. If you want to know anything else please let me know. You can call me, text, or email me.
I thank you and I am humbled by you taking time to read this page. I have only touched on how God has transformed my life and on HIS work in South Sudan. I again welcome your questions, comments and would love to share more with you. Please contact me to discuss more.
Acts 1:8 speaks of being a witness of Jesus Christ to the remotest parts of the earth. South Sudan definitely qualify as being one of the remotest parts of earth!
Please let me know if you would like to discuss the Lord's work in South Sudan, how HE has transformed my life or would like to make a future trip. Thanks once again and God Bless You.
In HIS Service,
Tim
