We are raising $5,000 to complete the building of a playground that will serve the 320 children at Spirit of Truth School in Drouin, Haiti. This little town was the epicenter of 2010's cholera outbreak, and its main industry, rice farming, suffered greatly in the face of international aid following the earthquake of 2010. A playground will help provide a sense of fun, exercise, and excitement back to the children of this community who have suffered so much over the last few years. Play is incredibly important in the development of children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
A group of amazing men and women pooled their excess that translated into countless bags of quality “stuff”. These donations will support our first Garage Sale for Orphans event on April 2nd, 2016. These men and women believe that our excess stuff can mean life for another and contribute to ending cycles of extreme poverty for many children.
Our work at Drouin is focused on family empowerment through education and community development. Though the farming industry has begun to reestablish itself as a sustainable source of income for the region, many families still need assistance with their daily needs in order to prevent the need for their children to be sent away; in other words, supporting Drouin is a way to actively engage in orphan prevention.
