TRANSFORM
Since a catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti in 2010, rebuilding has been slow. The delayed development of their country has activated members of JCI Haiti to take action and build a multi-purpose community center that would empower the community through new and innovative opportunities of recovery. The land has been purchased and the young active citizens of Haiti are ready to start building... all they need is your support!
Encourage the recovery of Haiti and the building of this community center by supporting the first phase of the project: Building the Center - The Day Care.
Children throughout the community of Port-au-Prince will be able to enjoy the opportunities the day care center will offer! These opportunities include a clean, safe and educational environment that fosters healthy development. While children are able to delight in the activities of the day care center, their parents will be given new chances for economic empowerment.
So what can you do to help?
1. Shop and Donate: No really... its that easy! By shopping through the pure charity site, earn money for your giving fund that can then be donated to the building of the community center!
2. Spread the word: Take out your phones, get on your computers, or even shout from your window to spread the word about the rebuilding of Haiti... one community center at a time!
3. Show your support! Support comes in all forms and sizes so please don't hesitate to visit JCI Haiti's Facebook Page for this project at:

The Story Behind the Community Center
When young active citizens of Haiti came around the table to devleop a sustainable solution to their countries slow recovery, they never imagined the impact their ideas would have. With the principle of searching for hidden opportunities behind what seemed like enormous difficulties, JCI Haiti organized a survey of 100 young people ages 18 to 37 in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. Through this survey JCI Haiti identified four key areas of need; all of which will be addressed through the building of the community center.
1. Training and Information2. Social Interaction3. A center for youth orientation, development and recreation4. Involvement of young people in development
By the time this project is fundraised and the center is built and furnished, the Port-au-Prince community will have a completely functioning multi-purpose center that provides employment, training and support to young people in Port-au-Prince. Built with a material that is made to withstand natural disasters, this center will provide not only a sustainable solution to the slow pace of recovery, but hopefully engage young people around the country to join the movement of rebuilding their nation.
Check out this detailed floor plan below that describes the various buildings and opportunities the center will offer. Developed by haitians, built by members of the community, and maintained by active citizens, this space will be more than just a community center. It will be an opportunity for prosperity.
Looking to the future...
Phase 1: Building the Center
By funding the individual buildings and rooms of the center (day care, playground, etc.) one piece at a time we can complete the fundraising for phase 1 and complete the building of the center!
Phase 2: Furnishing the Center
Once the building of the center is complete, there will be a need to furnish it with computers, tables, chairs and recreation items!
Phase 3: Managing the Center
This center will empower many Haitians of the local community through employment opportunities, but first they will need training and skill development to understand how to maintain and manage such a facility.
