Somehow, I've officially been in Manila for a month.

I wouldn't say I feel completely settled yet, but I'm getting there. We found a reliable source for drinkable water. We got Wi-Fi hooked up yesterday - yes, literally yesterday. Cellular data is still a work in progress, but honestly, I'm starting to kind of like being a little off the grid.

It rains basically every day, I've spent more time in malls this month than I probably did in years back home, and our first visa run turned into a few unexpected extra days in Hong Kong thanks to a typhoon.

There are still plenty of moments where I think, "Oh yeah... I live in the Philippines now."

But slowly, it's starting to feel less unfamiliar.

The biggest thing I've been reflecting on this month is how clearly God went before me.

An American missionary couple is living in our apartment complex, and they've been incredibly kind about including me and some of the other interns in Bible studies and Sunday services. I'm still figuring out where I'll ultimately call my church home, but having people nearby who understand what it's like to build a life here has made the transition so much easier.

My IJM team has welcomed us just as quickly - inviting us to dinner, showing us their favorite places, and even taking us to see a volcano during our second week.

Then my current supervisor found out I play violin and casually brought one into the office for me to use so I can join the IJM worship band.

Apparently he just... had a violin.

I'm not asking questions.

It's little things like these that have reminded me that while so much still feels new, the Lord was here long before I was.

With my manager out of the country this month, I've been working closely with the head of film and digital media for IJM Philippines. I've gotten to photograph events, help with visuals for internal videos, and experience the very glamorous side of communications work: booking hotels and making restaurant reservations.

One of the biggest things ahead is Muskathon in November, which brings people together to take on a physical challenge while raising awareness and funds for IJM's work. Our communications team will have a big role in bringing it together, and I'm really excited to be part of it.

Outside of work, one of my goals for this year is to not stay in my bubble. I've started taking Muay Thai classes, partly to stay active but also to meet people outside of work. I don't want to live in Manila for a year simply. I want to know the people here, learn from them, and become part of the community around me.

There have definitely been moments of homesickness and adjustment, but the Lord keeps providing people, places, and little pieces of home when I need them.

One month in, I still have a lot to learn, but I'm really grateful to be here.

Community: That I would step outside what's comfortable, build genuine friendships, and learn well from the people around me.

Muskathon: For wisdom and discernment for our small but mighty team as we prepare for November.

Rhythm: That I would find healthy routines for work, church, friendships, exercise, rest, and time with the Lord - and be fully present in this season.

Thank you for caring about this year and following along from far away. I'm already so grateful for the people God has placed around me - both here in Manila and back home.
