IJM has been around for more
than 25 years, and our mission is to protect people in poverty from
violence. We believe the end of poverty requires the end of violence, so
we partner with governments in the countries where we work to end the
impunity of perpetrators committing violent crimes. We believe when
perpetrators of violence are held accountable for their crimes, the
prevalence of that crime will decrease. 9
out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening
Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very
large populations of peopl
e in poverty.
We have over 1,300
professionals in more than 42 offices around the world. Our bold vision
for the year 2030 is to ensure the protection of 500 million people from
violence. There are three buckets you can fit our anti-violence work into.
We are working to end Slavery, Violence Against Women and Children, and
Police Abuse of Power. Our work looks different in the different areas
where we are.
In
order to achieve our goal of protecting 500 million people from violence
by 2030, our three priorities are to
-
Strengthen Justice Systems by rescuing victims, convicting criminals and
building government capacities to respond to slavery and violence.
-
Empower Survivors by restoring and supporting them through
trauma-informed aftercare and advocacy training so they can flourish and
lead others into the importance of this work.
-
We
are scaling our work through partnerships, technology, and
advocacy by accelerating and promoting the results we have seen of
measurably reduced violence.
