AN EAGERNESS TO LEARN
Since 2011, a group of physical, occupational, and speech therapists representing TEAMworks Guatemala has been traveling to Guatemala to work with children with disabilities.
While working at orphanages d
uring their previous trips, they came into contact with several university students paricipating in their clinicals. The students were hungry for any information the therapy team could share with them, and voiced that they don't feel prepared to work with younger children.
The therapists were amazed to see the students' confidence grow after teaching them only a few simple techniques to use. They were much more at ease handling the children, which is so important!
AN OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH
A team of therapists will be returning to Guatemala this April 2013. During this upcoming trip, they have been invited to the University in Guatemala City to teach and provide demonstrations to approximately 150 special education students, therapy students and clinicians. The therapy team will use a hands-on approach to address a variety of therapeutic principles, giving the students the opportunity to experience many techniques and ask any questions.
A CHANCE FOR YOU TO HELP!
This project aims at providing the supplies and equipment needed to demonstrate physical, occupational, and speech therapy techniques. The therapy equipment used during the presentations will be donated to orphanages where the special education students participate in clinicals so that the equipment can continue to be utilized.
Think of how many children's lives will be impacted when the 150 students use what they have been taught in the communities they serve!
