Meet Demerence!



Demerence is a Primary 2 student at Kutamba Primary School. There, she loves learning and playing with her friends. She works hard every day, both during school and when she's at home! Demerence lives with her grandmother, and helps her collect firewood every day. Her favorite color is red, and she loves eating fish on special occasions.

Having an education is important for all children, but it is especially important for the young girls. Often times, girls living in impoverished areas do not have the opportunity to go to school, as families would rather save money by having girls stay at home. This makes the girls more vulnerable to obstacles like human trafficking, marrying young, or the lure of low-wage jobs in the cities. But, with an education, girls like Demerence have the opportunity to develop useful skills and knowledge that will help them better their lives, their families, and their communities.
