Birhane Sami was in the fifth group of Community Based Care (CBC) students in Ethiopia, joining PATH in 2025 at the age of 8, living in Chiro with her aunt and one sister. At the time, Birhane was enrolled in Grade 1 at Much Ahmed Muche School. At school, she enjoys learning Social Science and especially likes running and playing with her friends. When she grows up, Birhane hopes to become a doctor.
Birhane's aunt, Gude Sisay, entered the program at 35 years old with no formal education. She supports the family by preparing baltena (local spices) for others and earning income through small production work. The family lives in a government owned mud house that is currently in habitable condition. Through PATH, Gude will receive business training and seed money to begin her own income generating activity and strengthen the family's economic stability.
