Briton Odhiambo Makongo joined CGA Grade Two in January 2019. He is the third child in his family. His mother died due to rabies. His father is a widower. His first wife died and left 6 children to care. He does not have a job and so he could not support all his 11 children. Some of the children were sent to other relatives to help take care of them. Briton with one of his younger sisters came to live with their maternal grandparents. The grandparents’ home is situated about 2 kilometers from CGA in the hilly areas of Mbita. They live in a temporary house where Briton sleeps on a mat on the dirt floor. They use firewood for cooking outside the house and use paraffin for lighting. They go to shops at the fishing center about 20 minutes walk. They get water from the lake and boil for drinking. They do their washing at the lake which is about 20 minutes walk. The grandfather is a casual laborer. Briton had been to another school. We believe he will do well at CGA. 2021 Update: Briton likes playing soccer. His grandmother secured a casual job with a fish farm in their neighborhood. 2024 Update: Briton has good leadership skills and has grown to be more responsible. His younger sister with hearing challenge joined a special boarding school around Mbita area. His maternal grandfather passed on in mid 2024 following a long sickness.
