Elly Solomon Ochieng was born on September 14th, 2019. He will join Pre-Primary 1 in January 2025. Elly is a partial orphan and lives with his maternal aunt about an hour’s walk from CGA. Elly lost his mother in December 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Unfortunately, his biological father failed to take responsibility for the children, forcing Elly’s aunt and maternal grandfather to take custody of Elly and his siblings. While the aunt took Elly and one of his younger sisters, the grandfather took custody of three older siblings. Elly’s guardian aunt is a Kindergarten teacher in a local public school and has two biological children of her own. Her husband is a fisherman and rarely supports the family. They live in a three-room mud wall house with a tin roof and cemented floor. They treat lake water for drinking while using the same for cleaning and cooking. The family uses firewood for cooking, and solar for lighting, and shares a pit latrine with the large family. Elly sleeps on a mattress spread on a mat under a mosquito net. The aunt is so excited to have Elly join CGA.
