Furqan Shamme was in the fifth group of Community Based Care (CBC) students in Ethiopia, joining PATH in 2025 at the age of 7, living in Chiro with his grandmother, three brothers, and one sister. At the time, Furqan was enrolled in Grade 2 at Much Ahmed Muche School. At school, he enjoys learning all of his subjects and especially likes playing soccer with his friends. He is still discovering what he would like to become when he grows up.
Furqan's grandmother, Halima Hashim, entered the program at 45 years old with no formal education. She supports the family through daily labor, although her ability to work is limited. The family lives in a self-owned mud home that is currently in poor condition. Through PATH, Halima will receive business training and seed money to begin a more sustainable income generating activity and improve the family's stability.
