Hamza Umer was in the fifth group of Community Based Care (CBC) students in Ethiopia, joining PATH in 2025 at the age of 11, living in Chiro with his aunt and two sisters. At the time, Hamza was enrolled in Grade 4 at Much Ahmed Muche School. At school, he enjoys learning Afan Oromo and especially likes playing soccer with his friends. When he grows up, Hamza hopes to become a doctor.
Hamza's aunt, Kedija Abdi, entered the program at 50 years old with no formal education. She supports the family by washing clothes and also receives occasional support from relatives living in a rural area. The family lives in a government owned mud house that is currently in deteriorated condition. Through PATH, Kedija will receive business training and seed money to begin a more sustainable income generating activity and strengthen the family's economic stability.
