Hirut Fikre was in the fifth group of Community Based Care (CBC) students in Ethiopia, joining PATH in 2025 at the age of 10, living in Chiro with her mother and one sister. At the time, Hirut was enrolled in Grade 3 at Much Ahmed Muche School. At school, she enjoys learning Afan Oromo and especially likes playing hide and seek with her friends. When she grows up, Hirut hopes to become a doctor.
Hirut's mother, Azeb Kebebewu, entered the program at 35 years old with no formal education. She supports her family by washing clothes and engaging in small-scale dairy production, processing milk into butter, cheese, and yogurt. The family lives in a government-owned rented mud house that is currently in poor condition. Through PATH, Azeb will receive business training and seed money to strengthen her dairy production activities and improve the family's stability.
